Hollie Cook

Hollie Cook blew up last year with her album “Vessel of Love” produced by the legendary Martin “Youth” Glover with its sweet mix of Lovers Rock , dub and rock steady or “Tropical Pop” as Hollie describes it. Hollie is the daughter of Sex Pistol Paul Cook and started her music career as a member of the re-formed Slits with family friend Ari Up in 2006. She then went onto form her own band who quickly gained recognition and success including playing with The Stones Roses at their Manchester reunion shows at the personal request of Ian Brown and Later with…Jools. Hollie and her band are the perfect musical accompaniment to a day in the sun on the Gunton deer park!

The Arlenes

Local musicians Steve and Stephanie Pulford embarked on a 30 year musical adventure with The Arlenes in North London that took them to California and Nashville and back to Norfolk 7 years ago. The husband and wife duo rose to the forefront of the UK’s new country movement in the late 90s and release an eagerly anticipated new album , “One More Hill To Climb”, in 2019.

Sister Cookie

Sister Cookie exploded out of the London vintage soul and blues scene in the late 2000’s and has been blowing the roofs off venues with her white hot band ever since with slamming jump blues and soulful gospel.

Son of Dave

Son of Dave is a Bluesman. Not traditional, but has begun a new tradition perhaps. Playing harmonica, layering up beatbox grooves, stomping and playing percussion, then writing passionate growling infectious songs overtop, he defies category. A truly maverick Bluesman.

Watch Video

The Cesarians

The Cesarians are unlike anything else you will see at The Gunton Festival or any other festival come to that – Imagine Ken Russell directing a Lee Bowery ballet in a Bauhaus- constructed set to a score composed by Mahler and performed by The Residents!

(The) Red Dear

(The) Red Dear: siblings Dylan and Izzy, 18 & 16 from Norwich, don’t have a TV. Instead, they write and record psychedelic folk music. Acoustic instruments and vocal harmonies form the basis of their music, with a little bit of electric guitar, and some other weird stuff; they play acoustic guitars with cello bows, use a 43 string autoharp, and create atmospheric sounds.

Formed in early 2016, the duo’s first EP “Demo” resulted in lots of local radio play, and the song “Paper Dust” received national airplay on BBC Radio One. In 2018, they released their second EP “An Imperfect Cadence”.

History

The Gunton Arms is situated in the one thousand acre deer park which surrounds Gunton Hall near Cromer in Norfolk. The park was created in the early 18th Century by the Harbord family and was comparable in scale to the great estates to the west, Holkham and Houghton. The Park evolved over a 150 year period with a succession of great landscape architects being employed: Charles Bridgman, Humphrey Repton, Gilpin and Teulon.

The Gunton Arms, originally Steward’s Farm, became the second house to Gunton Hall; and during the 1890s a frequent visitor was Lillie Langtry, actress, famous beauty, and mistress of the future King Edward VII. In the 20th Century the park declined into ruin, buildings were sold, the land ploughed up and the woods cut down. In 1982, rescue came in the person of Kit Martin, who along with Charles Harbord-Hamond and Ivor Braka succeeded in buying back much of the land and the buildings. In 2007 the park won the 'Genius of the Place’ Country Life / Savills award for the best restoration of a historic landscape.
